SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT RASH

  • Bumps on the skin
  • Itching
  • Fever
  • Pustules
  • Redness around the heat rash
  • Pain on touch
  • Inflammation around the heat rash

CAUSES OF HEAT RASH

  • Hot climate
  • High fever
  • Clogging of sweat ducts
  • Underdeveloped sweat glands

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF HEAT RASH

Due to the blockage in the sweat gland along with other predisposing factors like hot climate, heavy exercise etc leads to perspiration gets trapped beneath the skin, causing inflammation and rash.

DIAGNOSIS OF HEAT RASH

  • Heat rash is diagnosed by the proper inspection of the site.
  • Laboratory tests to find out the underlying pathology

TREATMENTS FOR HEAT RASH

  • Topical steroids
  • Antibiotics – if there is bacterial infection occurs

PROGNOSIS OF HEAT RASH

  • Heat rash is manageable, recurrence is common
  • If it is untreated leads to infection with bacteria

COMPLICATIONS OF HEAT RASH           

  • Permanent skin damage
  • Infection may spread to the whole body

HEAT RASH AND AYURVEDA

  • In Ayurveda,heat rash can be managed based on the treatment of ‘pitta vridhi’ and ‘sweda avarodha’

NIDANA- AYURVEDIC CAUSES OF HEAT RASH

  • Overexposure to sunlight
  • Use of lepa during night
  • Jwara – fever
  • Intake of more acrid, sour and salty foods

Due to the causative factors, pitta dosha becomes vitiated and further vitiates the rakta dhatu and obstructs the sweda(sweat). This causes paka(inflammation) that leads to rashes.

DIET AND BEHAVIOUR FOR HEAT RASH

  • Avoid food items which produce dosha imbalance like cold, acrid, sour and dry food, hard to digest. Because dosha imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Intake of proper amounts of fluids
  • In the case of infections, towels are not share with others

YOGA FOR HEAT RASH

  • Nadi shuddi pranayam    – calms the mind and cools the body

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
