SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF VAGINITIS

  • Vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal itching
  • Burning pain
  • Painful urination
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Bleeding or spotting after sex

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF VAGINITIS

The pathophysiology of vaginitis depends on the causative factor. The vaginitis due to infections may also transmit through sexual intercourse. Lymphocytic and neutrophilic inflammatory reactions are taking place. Bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections are more common.

DIAGNOSIS OF VAGINITIS

  • Physical examination
  • Laboratory investigations like paps test
  • Culturing of discharge from the vagina

TREATMENTS FOR VAGINITIS

  • Antibiotics
  • Topical medications

PROGNOSIS OF VAGINITIS

  • Prognosis is based on the cause of vaginitis and the condition of the patient.
  • The undiagnosed or untreated vaginitis leads to complications

COMPLICATIONS OF VAGINITIS

  • Spreading of the infection to other sites of the body
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease

Vaginitis is considered as an agantuja vyadhi, because it is caused by infection etc. When the microorganism enters into the body the doshas vitiated, which further vitiates the rakta, mamsa dhatus and produces the symptoms.

  • Avoid food items that produce dosha imbalance like sour, acrid and dry food, hard to digest. Because dosha imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Proper hygiene
  • Use a condom during sexual intercourse
  • Take proper rest.
  • Consume  a balanced diet

YOGA FOR VAGINITIS

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayama    – gets relief from irritations associated with vaginitis and provide overall immunity

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
