SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF BILE REFLUX

  • Sour belching
  • Discomfort and burning feeling in the stomach
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting of greenish-yellowish fluid

CAUSES OF BILE REFLUX

  • Defect in the functioning of  lower oesophagal and duodenal sphincter
  • Complications of previous surgery
  • Peptic ulcer

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF BILE REFLUX

The above-mentioned causes results in the bile backs up into the stomach and oesophagus, irritates the epithelial lining in the oesophagus. The irritation feels like burning pain in the chest. The reflux happens when the lower oesophagal sphincter doesn’t tighten or close properly. This causes bile from the stomach to rise into the oesophagus.

The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
