Ayaskriti is an Ayurvedic medicine for obesity, diabetes and diseases of deranged fat metabolism. It is also used in skin diseases and haemorrhoids.

Benefits of Ayaskriti

It is useful in haemorrhoids, indigestion, loss of taste, intestinal parasites and other diseases of digestive system. It helps in irritable bowel syndrome, anaemia, skin diseases, ascites, swelling, obesity etc.

It improves digestive & absorptive power in deficiency diseases and compromised immunity like iron deficiency anaemia. It is beneficial in vomiting and intestinal parasites.

It is beneficial in visceral problems like splenomegaly, hepatic disorders, heart diseases, pain & distension of abdomen, indigestion, belching, flatulence, etc.

It is used in the treatment of vitiligo. It helps to correct altered fat metabolism. Beneficial in hypercholesterolemia and obesity.

Ingredients of Ayaskriti

Asanadigana

Indian kino tree Asana Pterocarpus marsupium Roxb.

It is used as a cooling external application for headache and inflammations on skin and joints. It is anti-pyretic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac. It is used in the treatment of ulcers and also in mental aberrations.

Indian chariot tree Tinisha Ougenia dalbergioides Benth.

It is used in the treatment of vitiligo, skin diseases, diabetes, anaemia, non-healing wounds, and ulcers. It is anthelmintic, too. Used in diarrhoea and burning sensation.

Himalayan birch Bhoorja Betula utilis

It is used in wound healing, earache, diarrhoea, bleeding disorders etc.

It reduces fat and cholesterol levels in the body.

Arjun tree Swetavaaha Terminalia arjuna.W.&A.

It is an anti-oxidant, hypotensive, anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, anti-mutagenic, and gastroprotective. It is used in combination medicines for reducing Hypertension.

Indian beech tree Prakeerya Pongamia glabra.Vent./Pongamia pinnata

It has anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and wound-healing properties.

Cutch tree Khadira Acacia catechu

It is an anti-staphylococcal medicine. It is used in swelling & oedema in arthritis and rheumatism. It is beneficial in naso-pharyngeal infections, dysentery and diarrhoea.

Indian madder Bhandi Rubia cordifolia L.

It is a blood purifier. Used in the treatments of almost all skin diseases. It improves complexion. It enhances the liver functions.  Beneficial in diarrhoea and eye diseases.

Indian rosewood Simsapa Dalbergia sissoo.Roxb.

It has been used in bleeding piles, diarrhoea, eczema, fever and colic.  It is beneficial in amoebic dysentery and many other gastro-intestinal disorders.

Axle wood tree Dhava Anogeissus latifolia (DC)Wallich ex Guill.&Perr.

Root is pungent, acrid, sweet, cooling; improves both taste and appetite, removes kapha and vata useful in anaemia, urinary discharges, piles applied in skin diseases and erysipelas –The juice of the leaves is given in purulent discharges from the ear. Bark is bitter, astringent to the bowels useful in liver complaints, chronic diarrhoea, and ophthalmic inflammatory conditions.

It has anti-bacterial properties.

Indian gurjan Aswakarna Dipterocarpus turbinatus Gaertn.f.

It is useful in abscesses, diseases of vagina and urinary tract in women, bleeding disorders, skin diseases, fever, blisters&pustues, pruritus, headache, anemia and deafness.            

Vatsakadi gana

Conessi Vathsaka/Kutaja Holarrhena antidysentric). Wall.

It has been used in bleeding piles, diarrhoea, eczema, fever and colic.  It is beneficial in amoebic dysentery and many other gastro-intestinal disorders.

Rajmahal hemp Moorva Marsdenia tenacissima(Roxb.)Moon.

It is anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory. It is used in the treatment of abscesses, asthma, bronchitis, tonsillitis, cystitis, skin diseases, pneumonia etc. It is effective in food and drug poisoning. It is an anti-cancerous drug.

Blue-flowered Glory Tree Bharngi   Clerodendrum serratum (L.) MOON

The plant is considered as having antitoxic and antiseptic properties. Juice of leaves is used with ghee as an application in skin conditions like herpetic eruptions and pemphigus. It is given in fever and is useful in sinusitis. The drug is also useful as an expectorant in respiratory diseases like asthma and cough.

Yellow gentian, Hellebore   Katuka Picrorhiza kurroa

It is used for Dyspepsia, fever and in purgatives. Although it shows anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities, it is most valued for its hepatoprotective effect. 

Black pepper Maricha Piper nigrum L.

Black Pepper is extremely useful for respiratory disorders and asthma. In conditions like hoarse voice, dental caries, in removing bad breadth (halitosis), the gargling of Black Pepper Powder along with salt and warm water may be used. Black pepper is also used in case of Heavy diets as it aids digestion. Black pepper is also used in the weakness and loosening of the anal sphincter especially in case of piles. For Headache and migraine, nasal drops of Black pepper powder prepared in milk is used. It helps to remove the chronic headache. The same preparation can also be used as local application on fore head in the form of paste. Black pepper reduces itching and discharge through the lesions when used in the form of local application on skin disorders.

Atis root Ghunapriya/Ativisha Aconitum heterophyllum WALL. EX ROYLE

It has anti-diarrhoeal, diuretic, expectorant, hepato-protective, anti-pyretic, analgesic, anti-oxidant, anti-flatulent and carminative properties.

Fleshy spurge/Oleander spurge Gandira Euphorbia neriifolia

It has antispasmodic, anaesthetic, analgesic, anti-anxiety, anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic, anti-arthritis, anti-carcinogenic, antidiabetic, anti-diarrhoeal, anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiulcer properties. It is used as laxative, purgative, rubefacient, carminative and expectorant as well as in treatment of whooping cough, gonorrhoea, leprosy, asthma, dyspepsia, jaundice, enlargement of the spleen, tumours, stone in the bladder, abdominal troubles and leucoderma.

Cardamom Ela Elettaria cardamomum (L.) Maton

It can help in controlling asthma. It is beneficial in teeth and gum infections, cataracts, nausea, diarrhoea, as well as cardiac, digestive and kidney disorders

It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic actions. This plant is used to treat gynaecological conditions. Patha is used in the treatment of chronic non-healing ulcers and sinuses. It is also used in the treatment of chronic skin diseases and in the treatment of poisonous bites.

Cumin Ajaji/Jeeraka Cuminum cyminum L.

It is very good in improving digestive fire and immunity. It helps in curing various kinds of ulcers, IBS, diarrhoea and other disorders of the gut. It is used in the treatment of mild digestive disorders as carminative. It is useful as an astringent in Broncho pulmonary diseases.

Indian trumpet flower  Katvangaphala/Syonaka Oroxylum indicum

It has anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, hepato-protective, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, immune-modulatory, nephro-protective, and cardio-protective properties.

Ajwain Ajamoja/Deepyaka/ Yavaanika Trachyspermum ammi (L.) SPRAGUE

The seeds of this plant are used in the form of powder to treat worms. It acts as an appetiser, carminative and aids digestion. It is also beneficial in treatment of colic.

Wild betel Siddhartha Piper sarmentosum Roxb.

It has anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, and anti-pyretic effects. It is used in treatment of headache, muscle weakness, & pain in the bones, fever, cough, asthma, & toothache.

Calamus root/sweet flag Vacha Acorus calamus L.

The root is aromatic. It has stimulant, emetic, expectorant, emmenagogue, aphrodisiac, laxative, diuretic, antispasmodic, carminative, and anthelmintic properties. It is slightly tonic, and excitant, and forms a useful adjunct to other tonics and stimulants. It may be used in cases of flatulent colic, atonic dyspepsia etc.

asafoetida Hingu Ferula asafoetida Linn

 It has antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, laxative, and sedative. The volatile oil in the gum is eliminated through the lungs, making this an excellent treatment for asthma. The odor of asafoetida is imparted to the breath, secretions, flatus, and gastric eruptions. Its properties are antispasmodic, expectorant, stimulant, emmenagogue and vermifuge. It also thins the blood and lowers blood pressure. It is widely used in India in food and medicine.

False black pepper Vidanga Embelia ribes

It is an appetiser and mild laxative. It has carminative, stimulant, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-cancerous and anthelmintic properties.

Dog mustard or wild mustard Pasugandha Cleome viscosa L.

It has stimulant, carminative, stomachic, laxative, diuretic, anti-tumour, antiseptic, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antipyretic, antidiarrheal, and hepatoprotective activities. The plant is good for malarial fevers and useful in blood diseases, & uterine complaints. The leaves are also used in for wounds and ulcers.

Panchakola

It is a group of 5 drugs, used as a combination in many ayurvedic formulations.

The drugs are,

Long pepper- fruit Pippali Piper longum

It has carminative action and maybe used as appetizer. The fruit of Pippali is used in the form of powder to treat fever, diarrhoea, piles, cough, hiccough, asthma, hoarseness of voice, flatulence, colic, vomiting, acid gastritis, oedema, diseases of mouth, eye diseases, diseases of semen, diseases of women, jaundice, and earache.

 Pippali choorna mixed with honey alleviates cough, dyspnoea, fever splenomegaly, and hiccough.

•  Constipation with mucous or sticky stool.

•  Loss of appetite.

•  Indigestion.

•  Gas or flatulence.

•  Bloating.

•  Abdominal distension.

•  Irritable bowel syndrome.

•  Common cold (acute phase during running nose).

•  Cough with thin white phlegm.

•  Asthma (chest congestion due to phlegm).

•  Weight loss (obesity).

•  Body aches with feeling of heaviness in the body.

•  High cholesterol levels.

Long pepper – root Pippaleemoola Piper longum

It is pungent in taste and hot in potency. It breaks down thick sputum and is beneficial in sinusitis and asthma. It is also useful in the treatment of worm infestation, infected wounds, ascites, enlargement of abdomen, distension of abdomen, splenomegaly, asthma, tuberculosis and other chronic respiratory disorders. It improves taste and relieves anorexia.

Kaattu mulak   Chavya Piper retrofactum Vahl.

It is useful in treating indigestion, abdominal colic, worm infestation, poisoning, anorexia, productive cough, asthma, bronchitis, fever, diarrhoea, IBS, haemorrhoids, fistula, chronic respiratory disorders, throat disorders, and rheumatic conditions.

Ceylon leadwort Chitraka Plumbago zeylanica L.

It aids digestion and increases appetite. It has anti-inflammatory action. It can also be used in liver diseases.

Dried ginger Naagara Zingiber officinalis

 It is unctuous and hot in potency with pungent taste but becomes sweet after digestion. It is an aphrodisiac and balances Vata and Kapha.

It improves ability to taste and promotes digestion. Relieves cough cold and other respiratory problems. It is not a laxative, rather causes constipation.

These five drugs, together known as Panchakola, it is well- known for its potency to improve digestive fire and in clearing the blocked channels.

Fire flame bush Dhaataki Woodfordia fruiticosa Kurtz

It is an anthelmintic, in dysentery, leprosy, blood diseases, leucorrhoea, and menorrhagia.

Details of the manufacturing

As already discussed, Ayaskriti has 46 herbal ingredients, jaggery and honey.

All herbal ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.

Take the herbs of Asanadi gana – 20 Pala each in a clean vessel.

Add 128 Prastha clean water into it. Make it boil. The fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Make sure to mix it in between with a wooden ladle. Reduce the quantity into one by fourth of the initial quantity. Once the quantity is reduced to one by fourth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. To this decoction, add Vatsakadi gana herbs powder (one pala each), 2 Tulam of Jaggery and 2 Prastha of honey. Mix it well and transfer it into an earthen pot coated inside with ghee and paste of Pippaleechoorna & honey. Thin sheets of Iron should be heated up with fire made up with wood of Khadira and dipped into the mixture in pot. Repeat the process till the iron is completely dissolved into the mixture. Then cover it with a clean white cloth, seal it with Laksharasa, keep it closed and airtight. Keep it inside Barley for long period in a dark place with low temperature. After one month or longer period, open it and filter through a clean white cloth. Keep it in an airtight glass bottle. Arishtam can be used for a longer period of time without any preservatives.

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas.

Ayaskriti is Kapha-Vaatahara and soshana.

It acts on aabhyantara and bahya rogamargas.

Dosage and Usage of Ayaskriti

Dosage: 25-30 ml after food

Usage:

Arishtam is advised to be taken after food, once the ingested food and arishtam will digest together.

It is taken two times or three times a day immediately after food.

Exercises and Yoga.

As Ayaskriti targets mainly GIT and obesity following regular exercises and specific yoga asanas like pavanamuktasana, vajrasana, bhujangasana etc for lower back and abdomen recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.

 Yoga can maintain harmony within and with surroundings.

Recommended diet and behaviour

Diet:

  • To be avoided

Heavy meals and difficult to digest foods – cause indigestion.

 junk foods- cause disturbance in digestion and reduces the bioavailability of the medicine

 carbonated drinks – makes the stomach more acidic and disturbed digeastion

refrigerated and frozen foods – causes weak and sluggish digestion by weakening agni (digestive fire)

 curd – causes vidaaha and thereby many other diseases

Light meals and easily digestible foods

Green gram, soups, buttermilk boiled with turmeric, ginger and curry leaves

 freshly cooked and warm food processed with cumin seeds, ginger, black pepper, ajwain etc

Behaviour:

Better to avoid exposure to excessive sunlight wind rain or dust.

Avoid lifting heavy weights and other vigorous physical activities.

Maintain a regular food and sleep schedule.

Avoid sitting continuously for a long time and avoid squatting.

Side effects and contraindications

No known side effects reported.

Diabetic people and people with gastric ulcer should not take arishta-asavas.

As it contains iron, some persons may develop discomforts like constipation.
